Why would it have been easier for Tally to activate the pendant when she got to the smoke? Explain.
"She wished she had activated the pendant the moment she'd gotten there. In only one day she'd begun to realize that it wasn't just Shay's dream she'd be betraying. Hundreds of people had made life in the Smoke." p.225
Tally is having a battle within herself. Because she is now living the life of the Smokies, her conscience is riding her about activiating the pendant and ruining the lives of these people that have gaciously taken her in. She is conncecting on a personal level with the Smokies. They are letting their guards down. If she would have just alerted Cable and crew when she first got there, she wouldn't have gotten to know them, been part of the group, and treated like a special part of this "family". Her guilt is overwhelming to the point of her almost confession to Shay about the whole thing.
